Moving House With Children

How to make a move easy on your children.

If you are going to be moving and have children there are some details that are going to be more important to you than others.  The fact of the matter is that moving can be quite stressful to children; mores so than to adults.  When young children move they do not know where they are going, or why they have to leave their home.  Adults understand this much better.  And if you have kids, you need to make sure that you take them into consideration.  Do not simply tell them that they have to move because that is the way things are going to be.  This does not mean that you have to give them a say in the decision, but you should at least explain to them what is going on.  You should also tell them the benefits of moving to a new home in order to get them a bit more excited.

Here are a few things that you can do in order to make a move easier on your children.  If you follow these tips your children should at least be able to make the move without too much fuss and stress.

  1. Tell your children that they are moving because it is going to be better for everyone.  If they know that their new home is going to be just as nice as the old one, they will be more prone to going along with it.  In addition, tell them about any special features that the new home has.  For example, if there is a swing set in the backyard tell them about it.  They may get so excited about a special feature that they cannot wait to get the move over and done with.
  2. Children also hate to move because they have to leave their friends.  If you are running into this problem you can do two things.  First off, tell your children that you will be more than happy to take them to play with their friends whenever they want.  In addition, tell them about all of the new friends that they are going to meet at your new home.  This will get them excited in no time.
  3. Talk to your children about their new school.  Changing schools is a fear that many kids have.  If you tell them about all the benefits of the new school you will make the move much easier on them.  And to go along with point number two above, tell them about all the new friends that they will meet through their new school.

Moving with children can be a difficult task.  But in some cases it is impossible to avoid.  If you find yourself in this situation, do everything that you can to make it as easy as possible on your children.  They will thank you in the end, and you will feel much better about yourself along the way.
